Let's go to October 1965 and the song that held the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 for the entire month, "Yesterday" by the Beatles.
It was not released as a single in the UK because it was part of the "Help!" soundtrack, it was finally released in 1976 and peaked at #8.
In the US it was released as a single with the B side being Ringo Starr's version of the Buck Owen's "Act Naturally".
"Yesterday" holds the Guinness Book of World Record as the most covered song in history with over 2,500 different versions.
