1980 Sportsmen of the Year

February 22nd 1980 
The US Men's Olympic hockey team pulled one of the biggest upsets in sports history when they defeated the USSR in the 1980 Olympics to earn a berth in the gold medal game.   Team USA would beat Finland for the first gold medal in hockey since 1960 and maybe stars out of the entire team.

Team USA would go on to be named Sports Illustrated's Sportsmen of the Year for 1980

With Naval Academy QB Roger Staubach (and 1963 Heisman Trophy winner) on the cover, this issue was never circulated.  It was pulled and replaced by a cover of recently assassinated President John F. Kennedy.   Hard to find and going for over $1000.00 we put on ebay, this issue is a truly a collectors item.
