Oppenheimer Wins the Best Picture Academy Award

 The 96th Academy Awards

"Oppenheimer" wins the coveted Best Picture Award for 2023 as well as Best Director (Christopher Nola), Cillian Murphy (Best Actor), Robert Downey Jr. (Best Supporting Actor), Best Original Score (Ludwig Goransson), Best Cinematography (Hoyte van Hoytema) and Best Film Editing (Jennifer Lame).

In an awkward announcement of the winner of Best Picture, presented by Al Pacino, reminiscent of the "La La Land" fiasco from 2017, he fumbled his way to announcing the winner.

From 2017 (89th Academy Awards)

The climax of Hollywood's biggest night ended in what will surely be a long-remembered snafu, as the initial announcement that the best picture award went to "La La Land" had to be retracted on stage and corrected to the real winner, "Moonlight." The announcement of "La La Land" was followed by several moments of apparent chaos on stage that ended with a producer of "La La Land" announcing that it was not really his picture that won.

John Wayne Wins An Oscar

April 7th 1970
The 42nd Annual Academy Awards were held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and had no official host.  The Academy celebrated the year 1969 in film.
The big news for a lot of film fans was that John Wayne was nominated again for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his turn as Rooster Cogburn in "True Grit".  This was his 2nd nomination in the category, the first was 1949 for his role in "The Sands of Iow Jima".
I agree with him winning the Award I will say for me his best role was in his last film "The Shootist" in 1976.
Here he is accepting the award from Barbra Streisand and he mentions that he finally gets to accept for himself instead of for friends winning awards that weren't attending the ceremonies.
