Comic Books I Wish I Had Bought
Comic Books I Wish I Had Bought
"Weird War Tales" falls into this category from my childhood and teenage years. When my parents could afford to buy me a comic book (which wasn't often) I normally went for Marvel and specifically "The Avengers" and not, to my regret something like "Weird War Tales". I now love these comics and the old EC brand of Weird Science, Tales from the Crypt, Haunt of Fear and even the suspense and "horror" comics that were around but in lesser forms as I was growing up.
I think I went mostly for the Marvel and some DC because that is what was available in my area as we live in a rural area and then a small town, where I still live, so comic book stores and even book stores were unheard of until the late 1980s and even into the 1990s. When I was working and going to school I found my first real comic book store and made it my second home and still I fell for the Marvel superheroes but I also managed to get talked into the horror/weird tales comics and ever since I have so enjoyed them.
So enjoy this cover of "Weird War Tales" Vol 1 #94 from December 1980. Click the title and see the details from the DC Database.

Men's Adventure Magazines
Lately, I have become fascinated by men's adventure magazines from the 1950s, 60s and early 70s. I joined a Facebook group dedicated to the artwork in these magazines and its just amazing at the information on these magazines you can get. Most of the stories in these magazines are fiction but portrayed as factual (any war story is supposed to be fact based) but most were written completely out of hand or based on some artwork already produced for the magazine.
The best website for everything MAM (Men's Adventure Magazines) is Menspulpmags.com run by the very knowledgeable Bob Deis, an encyclopedia of MAM.
These magazines went by various names, "Men's World", "Stag", "Argosy", "Man's Illustrated", "The Bluebook", "All Man", etc.,
Later in the 1970's any of these that were still in print became porn magazines and the stories and articles became scarce if not completely gone.
So I start our Men's Adventure Magazine cover of the Week. Enjoy.
