1959 Chicago White Sox

The 1959 "Go-Go" White Sox were the the American League champions and would face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series but lose the series 4 games to 2.  1959 was the first White Sox AL championship since 1919 and their last until 2005.

The White Sox also had the 1959 American League MVP in 2nd baseman Nellie Fox (L)  who had 191 hits, 34 doubles, 70 RBI and batted .306.

Leading the way in pitching was the 1959 American League Cy Young Award Winner Early Wynn who had 22 wins, 10 losses, 3.29 ERA with 179 strikes, which led the league. 

Al Lopez was named the 1959 American League Manager of the Year after leading the White Sox to a 94-60 regular season record

Roger Maris of the NY Yankees was chasing Babe Ruth's record of 61 home runs in a season.

He had won the American League MVP in 1960 and would win it again in 1961 as he set the new single season home run record with 61.  Maris along with teammates Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford would power the Yankees to the 1961 World Series championship defeating the Cincinnati Reds 4 games to 1.
