Bonanza - Season 6 (The Search)


Season 6 (1964-65) of Bonanza on NBC was the first season for this legendary western was the #1 prime time show in the US.   With a 36.3 rating they outdistanced the #2 show "Bewitched" by 5 rating points.

This would be the first of 3 consecutive season as the #1 show in US television.

Bonanza - Season 6 (1964-65)

Bonanza, the classic family western aired on NBC from 1959 to 1973 and spent its 6th, 7th and 8th seasons as the #1 show on network prime time television.
Starring Lorne Greene and patriarch Ben Cartwright with 3 grown sons - Adam, Hoss (Eric) and Little Joe. 
They ran the largest ranch in the Nevada territory, The Ponderosa.

Bonanza Season 6

The 6th season of Bonanza was the show's first season of 3 consecutive as the #1 show on prime time network television.  Airing on Sunday nights at 9pm on NBC this show featured Lorne Greene as Ben Cartwright the patriarch/widower of the Ponderosa in Virginia City, Nevada in the 1870s.  He ran the giant ranch with the help of his 3 grown sons, Adam, Hoss(Eric) and Little Joe.

Bonanza - Season 6 (Old Sheba)


Another episode from season 6 of Bonanza, 1964-65 season.   This was the first season that Bonanza was the #1 show in prime time television.

guest star William Demarest as "Tweedy" and Henry Kulky as "Bearcat"
Joe convinces Hoss to wrestle Bearcat at Tweedy's Circus. During the fight, Hoss manages to fractured some of Bearcat's ribs. So in recompense for the income Tweedy will lose, Hoss stays on Tweedy. After a month of fighting bouts, Joe and Hoss come to collect the money that Tweedy owes. Tweedy, however has lost all of his money gambling. The two Cartwright boys arrive home with Old Sheba, an elephant. Ben isn't happy and sets about trying to get rid of the elephant.

When Joe and his friend Mitch go after a puma, Joe climbs a big peak and throws his gun up higher, intending to crawl up after it. But as he looks down, things begin to spin. He realizes he can't go any higher, and he retreats down the hill. Needing to prove himself, Joe spars against Mitch.

The Washburns just arrived in town and are looking for work. When Hoss hears about the difficulties they've been through, he invites them to stay at the Ponderosa. After they sell everyone at the ranch a share in a copper mine, the Cartwrights find out the Washburns are not exactly what they appear to be. But this is just the beginning of the yarns Samuel is willing to spin.

Ben and Adam capture 2 known outlaws that tried to hold up the stage they are passengers on.  A reporter who was also a passenger and dime novelist, wants to make them both famous.   When they take the gunmen to jail at the next town they are met by an aloof alcoholic sheriff who doesn't mind regaining his past glory with the help of a little creative writing.

Waldo Watson, a born loser who has decided to end it all.  Feeling pity for Waldo, Hoss hires him as a Ponderosa ranch hand.  Waldo is a clumsy and inept worker, but he also puts the Cartwrights lives' in danger with a gang of eastern gamblers who want to collect a long-standing debt from the hapless Waldo.

Logan has just been released from prison after serving 20 years for stealing $100,000 of gold dust. It has never been found and a bounty hunter decides it may be worth his while to keep an eye on him in case he still has it hidden.

Little Joe and Adam do not appear in this episode, they are in San Francisco.

The Hostage

Originally Aired  September 27th 1964
(Ben is taken hostage by a gang of outlaws (are their any other kind in the old west?) who are hoping for a $100,000 ransom from the Cartwrights.   As his sons formulate a plan to rescue him, Ben comes up with a plan of his own after sensing dissension between his captors.

This episode was originally aired commercial free as part of a sponsorship deal between the producers and Chevrolet. The deal was to air one episode per season commercial free.
