In 1981, 1982 and 1983 Ralph Sampson of the University of Virginia won the Adolph Rupp Award, Oscar Robertson Award and The Naismith Award as college basketball's player of the year.
In 1982 and 1983 he also included The John Wooden Award as player of the year. The Sporting News picked him as Player of the Year in 1982
In his freshman year he led the Virginia Cavaliers to the 1980 NIT Championship and in 1981 he took them to the NCAA Final Four.
