19th Prime Time Emmy Awards

The 19th annual Prime Time Emmy Awards were held June 4th 1967 to honor the 1966-67 television season.

Don Knotts wins for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Comedy: 
(The Andy Griffith Show) episode "Barney Comes To Mayberry".
This was Don Knotts 5th win in this category.

Frances Bavier wins for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in Supporting Role in Comedy:

1994 Kentucky Derby

The 1994 Kentucky Derby saw heavy favorite Holy Bull meet a sloopy muddy track and this gave 9-1 favorite Go For Gin a chance and he took it and secured the only victory of his 3 year old season.

Go For Gin then finished 2nd in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes to Tabasco Cat in a frustrating Triple Crown for "Gin".

Holy Bull (his owners bypassed the 1994 Preakness and Belmont) came back to dominate the racing world in 1994 and be named U.S. Horse of the Year for and Champion 3 Year old colt of 1994.
He was inducted into the US Racing Hall of Fame in 2001.

Gunsmoke - Season 3

Season 3 of Gunsmoke on television, 1957-58, was the first of 4 consecutive seasons at the #1 show on network prime time television.  Gunsmoke aired on CBS at 10pm on Saturday night.

(with Jack Klugman as Ticks and John Anderson as Siple)
John Anderson was honored by the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and presented with a Western Heritage Award in 1967 for his years of work in television and movie westerns.
The long fight scene filmed for this episode was used by the U.S.C Film School as well as other film schools in the US to train student film editors.

July 2nd 1916 the birthdate of Ken Curtis, future singing cowboy and television legend as Gunsmoke's Festus Haggen
Curtis first appeared on Gunsmoke as Festus on 
December 8th 1962, in an episode called "Us Haggens".  
He would not become a regular until the next season (the 9th) and  
be with the show until its final cancellation in 1975 as loyal sidekick and deputy to Marshall Matt Dillon.
