One Hit Wonder

Well there are One Hit Wonders that stick around for years and are fairly popular and well known and remembered in pop culture, but I had never heard this song before and when I heard this song for the first time on the oldies station just 2 months ago I was stunned at how good this song sounded. I did some looking and its not available on cd or digital download.
You can get a 45 of it on Ebay but thats it.
Its called "I've Found Someone of My Own" by a soul group called Free Movement. It hit #5 on Billboard in 1971 and then group had one more top 50 in 1972 but disappeard forever into the mist of chart history. It was covered on the country side by several artist and was a big hit for Cal Smith in 1972, but he soon topped that with the huge hit "Country Bumpkin".

Lets Listen to "I've Somone of My Own" and tell me what you think.

and now lets see Cal Smith and his #1 Country hit from 1972, "Country Bumpkin"

and just because I really like this song, its a one hit wonder of sorts from a well know jazz rock group TOWER OF POWER, "What is Hip?" from 1974.

Whatever became of.... Part 2

again with the wrestling. This is a picture of "Macho Man" Randy Savage today with a picture of what he looked like in his heyday. He has a strange connection to my previos post. He was the first husband of Miss Elizabeth who was the fiance of Lex Luger when she died suddenly from a drug overdose.

Whatever became of....

I find these stories very interesting and I am a huge wrestling fan. Of course I am big fan of the 70s and 80s wrestling and not so much from today. So when I got a link to this article about former big time wrestler Lex Luger I was really really interested. This man was at the top for several years and was actually set to be the "next Hulk Hogan" for the then WWF, but he couldnt get any fan reaction for anything and he was moved back down the roster to just another member of the crew albeit a very well paid one.
After years of problems he is now healthy and has turned his life around.

Grave stuff

For the last 10 years or so I have been fascinated by cemetaries, gravesites and obituaries. I also get the Ripley's Believe it or Not cartoon in my email every morning and today there was an interesting one about a girl named Florence Irene Ford. Her casket was built with a window and the gravesite had an access stairwell down under the ground. Well here is a link to the grave site with the story.

Also there has been news story recently about the son of rock n roll pioneer JP "Big Bopper" Richardson putting his fathers casket up for sale on Ebay. Well he had his father exhumed and reinterred in a new casket in a place with better access for fans and near a statue honor the Bopper.
Here is a story from Jan 6th of this year about that possible sale and a good picture of Jay Richardson and the casket.

As of yesterday I dont think the casket is going to be sold on Ebay according to the Beaumont Enterprise website:
Plan to sell Big Bopper's casket online put on hold
January, 14, 2009
A proposal to sell J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson's casket through an online auction service has been put on hold, according to the founder of the Texas Musicians Museum, the casket's current location.
Tom Kreason, founder of the Hillsboro museum, said that since the plan was publicized several offers to purchase the casket have been made by other museums. Richardson's family, Kreason said, wants the casket to be acquired by a group that will display it in a dignified manner, respectful to the singer.
Richardson was killed on Feb. 3, 1959 in a plane crash that also killed fellow musicians Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, a tragedy later labeled "the day the music died."
Richardson's casket was exhumed last year so that his body could be transferred to another location. Kreason said that when a body is exhumed the law requires it be transferred to a new casket. Richardson's family, he said, felt that the old casket, which has been cleaned and sanitized, might have some historic value that is worth preserving as a reminder of the deadly plane crash.

Happy Richard Nixon Day

Today would have been the 96th birthday of our 37th President Richard M Nixon.
I would like to see the new "Frost/Nixon" movie and I have the dvd of the "David Frost Interviews Richard Nixon" on my netflix list.
One of our more fascinating presidents because he seemed to be paranoid of just about everyone and he proved it with his "enemies list". I am sure most Presidents have one of those but his seemed to be the one everyone remembers.
I thought he picture would tie yesterday and today all together nicely. President Nixon is probably just as famous for that picture as he is for Watergate and being the only sitting US President to resign the office.

HOCKEY! Part 2

Here are my daughters...on each end with the friends they brought along to enjoy the game.

New Year's Eve 2008 Michelle and I took our daughters and a couple of friends to see the Indiana Ice play at Conseco Fieldhouse. It was a fun night and I got to see some good old friends that I havent seen in a few months. My girls had a great time and saw some hitting and lots of goals as the Ice came back from a 4-1 defecit to win 6-5. The Ice scored a record 5 goals in the third period and all at the end of where our great seats were and made it a tremendous night. As you can see in the first picture we are a motley bunch and only missing Chad and Rick to make it a complete set of hunks, and yes I do believe Doug was feeling no pain....again.
