Your Classic Movie Poster of the Day

The 1958 movie starring Elvis Presley, Carolyn Jones and Walter Matthau.  Originally written for James Dean, it was shelved when he died in 1955.  The film was revived in 1957 after a successful off broadway run, Hal Wallis suggested they use the young superstar Elvis Presley in the title role and change it from a boxer in New York City to a singer in New Orleans.  Elvis got a deferment for his enlistment in the US Army to film this in New Orleans.
The soundtrack produced the #1 Elvis classic "Hard Headed Woman"

Happy Birthday

Today would have been the 76th birthday of the King of Rock N Roll Elvis Presley.

It is also the birthday of the most wonderful woman in my life, my beautiful wife Michelle!

I knew I had the perfect wife when I suggested going to Memphis and Graceland for our honeymoon and she was all for it!
We had a great time and have been back with our girls and its still a wonderful trip and a great place to visit.

Here is her favorite Elvis song.

The Bestselling and Most Played Single of 1957

"All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley. Written by Otis Blackwell, who also wrote "Don't Be Cruel", the biggest selling single of 1956, he wrote this when challenged by a fellow songwriter. He was handed a bottle of Pepsi and told "You say you can write a song about anything, write about this" and within minutes he was playing "All Shook Up" on the piano at the Shalimar Music Publishing house.
Here the Jordanairres talk about recording "All Shook Up" and then we here the song.

Happy Richard Nixon Day

Today would have been the 96th birthday of our 37th President Richard M Nixon.
I would like to see the new "Frost/Nixon" movie and I have the dvd of the "David Frost Interviews Richard Nixon" on my netflix list.
One of our more fascinating presidents because he seemed to be paranoid of just about everyone and he proved it with his "enemies list". I am sure most Presidents have one of those but his seemed to be the one everyone remembers.
I thought he picture would tie yesterday and today all together nicely. President Nixon is probably just as famous for that picture as he is for Watergate and being the only sitting US President to resign the office.
